PUSCH RIDGE PIRATES COACHES

Head Coach
Stan Valacer


As a swimmer, Coach Stan was a state champion and was nationally ranked in breaststroke.  He held the high school regional record in the 100 breaststroke for nearly a decade. Stan attended college at the United States Military Academy at West Point. While in college he received all-conference honors, was a conference champion, and also received numerous honors and recognitions as a soldier. 

 

Coach Stan has nearly 15 years of coaching experience.  He became Head Coach of the Pusch Ridge summer team in 2000.  Under Coach Stan, the Penguins have won 8 SAAA League Championships.  Coach Stan started the Pusch Ridge Pirates in 2002.  Despite small numbers, the Pusch Ridge Pirates have produced several state champions, national rankings, and several swimmers have gone on to enjoy successful college careers.

Assistant Coach
Allison Johnson (AJ)

Coach AJ recently returned to Arizona after a few years of working in Wisconsin.  Before going to college she was the first Pusch Ridge Penguins swimmer to hold every record in the same age group.  As a year round swimmer she was a State Champion in the 200 breast and a Junior National qualifier in the 100 breast.  At Kenyon, Coach AJ earned one national title and was an 8-time All-American. She also helped to lead Kenyon to their 21st and 22nd National Championships (the most NCAA championships ever by any women’s sport). As a Kenyon swimmer she earned two awards one given to the graduating senior who has consistently supported the Kenyon swimming team in devotion to training and competition swimming  and the other for taking an individual sport to its highest team level by inspired performance as a member of relay teams. She graduated from Kenyon with honors. She has coached the Pusch Ridge Penguins for 6 years and this is her 2nd year as a coach for the Pirates. She was also a Masters coach for the Dane County YMCA in Madison, WI. She holds the WI Masters state records for the 18-24 age group in the 200 and 400 IM. Coach AJ is currently attending The University of Arizona for her MBA

Assistant Coach

As a swimmer, Coach Jason was a state qualifying breaststroker with both his high school team and with the Pusch Ridge Pirates.  He still holds several Pirate records in the 15-18 year old mens division.  Coach Jason has been a year-round coach with the Pirates for the last four years and member of Coach Stan's SAAA Pusch Ridge Penguins staff for five years.  While only coaching for a short time, Coach Jason commitment to his swimmers has led to numerous swimmers achieving state qualifying times or better.  He is certified in First Aid, CPR, Lifeguarding, AED and Coaches Safety Training.   Coach Jason is currently attending the University of Arizona majoring in engineering.  He is also involved with the Southern Arizona Rescue Association.
